Glöte

Discover Glöte

Glöte is an old farming village located 15km east of Lofsdalen. In the middle of the village is Glötessjön with a lovely view of the mountain world.
The area has a rich wildlife, fine fishing waters and pleasant places to visit. Welcome!

Hiking and cycling

Around Glöte there are several nice tours suitable for both hiking and cycling. We really want to recommend the Utsikten tour that goes up to the top of Glötesåsen, a tough hike uphill but so worth the effort when you stand at the top and can look out over the magical view of Hovärken, Glöte village, Sonfjället and Glötesvålen.

Bird tower

From the bird tower at Dravagsjön in the village of Dravagen, 6 km east of Glöte, you can watch over 20 common and unusual bird species, including the Black-billed Wagtail, which has a very special appearance.
In addition, there are wagtails, whooper swans, cranes, whooping cranes, wagtails, and many other species.

Lake Glötesjön

In the middle of Glöte village is Glötesjön with a unique view of Hovärken in the west. There is a nice swimming area with a jetty here, perfect for hot summer days.

Lake Glötesjön is also excellent for fishing, where perch, lake and pike are caught. If you want to rent a boat to easily get around the lake, it is possible to do so.

Unburnt lime kiln

In Glöte there is something as unusual as an unburnt lime kiln, one of two in Jämtland County. Why our ancestors didn't burn the oven after all the hard work with construction is unclear, but one can speculate. Did you not catch fire in it, did the need for locally produced lime decrease or did something dramatic happen? Anyone who takes a forest walk of about 600 m to the site gets a possible explanation.
